Annie - receptionist 2015

I'm Annie, I'm 21 years old and I study French and German at an English university. I took the summer internship here at reception in Le Caussanel in order to improve my French, as well as to gain some experience in a professional working environment.

My role as a receptionist during the summer season consisted of providing guests with tourist information and advice on what to see and do in the region (which first of all involved having to learn all about Aveyron's tourist attractions!), making reservations for guests with our partner companies (canoeing, vélorail, Antipodes, boat hire, bike hire, paragliding...), reserving the pedalos and canoe for hire on site, selling wifi tickets, washing machine tokens, postcards, stamps, magazines, and showing guests to their pitches and rental accommodation and explaining useful information about the campsite. As you can see, the job involved a number of different tasks, adding variety to every day!

Over the summer my language skills have definitely improved, due to working in direct contact with customers, and conversing with my French colleagues during and outside of work. I have overcome my fear of phone conversations in French when making reservations thanks to the lovely people from our partner companies, and I was even able to practise my German on several occasions with German guests.

I enjoyed being able to help guests and solve any problems they had. It felt good to contribute to their positive holiday experience. I also got the chance to explore a part of France which I previously knew nothing about. Aveyron is a very beautiful and interesting region, with many different things to see, including the picturesque Lake Pareloup, of which you have stunning views from the campsite.

In conclusion, this season at Le Caussanel has greatly improved my French, taught me how to deal with various challenges, and helped me to learn about the tourist industry...and all of this in a calm, beautiful, natural setting.
