Interview with the Whites

I'm Isla and I come from England and am helping out at the reception here this summer.

I spent a lovely morning in the sun talking to the White couple, from Marlow in Great Britain; about their stay at Camping le Caussanel and what they enjoy about camping in general.

Isla: Do you camp often? How many times a year would you say?

The Whites: Actually now we are retired we camp a lot- normally one long period of 8-10 weeks and a shorter period earlier in the year. We used to camp frequently even before we were retired, but not for such long periods of time, of course!

Isla: Do you prefer camping in accommodation (chalets or mobile-homes), or on pitches?

The Whites: In fact, we have our own caravan, so we use that on pitches. We had a caravan when our children were young, but sold it until just before retiring, when we bought another one.

Isla: What is it you like about camping?

The Whites: First and foremost it’s the freedom of camping that we enjoy so much. On top of that it’s cheaper and more pleasant than a hotel for long stays.

Isla: Do you tend to take part in campsite organized activities or do you prefer to do your own thing?

The Whites: We tend to do our own things. In fact we don’t normally stay at full-facility sites, particularly if we are in the UK, where campsites don’t offer as many, if any activities. But probably when the children were younger they would have taken part- and a swimming pool is a must!

Isla: Have you visited any other Castel campsites in France?

The Whites: Yes, in fact this is number three this holiday! So far we have been to Les Cirques de Porteils in Collioure  and Domaine de Masserau in Cévennes (both in Languedoc Roussillon). After our stay here we will be staying at the Dancourt in Baie de Somme (Picardie).

Isla: What tourist activities have you done so far in Aveyron? Which were your favourites?

The Whites: We only just arrived so we are yet to have done many activities, but on our drive here we passed over the Millau Viaduct, which was amazing. We stopped at the aire de repos and also visited the museum (red. L'espace Info) that tells you a lot of interesting things about the incredible architecture of the Viaduct- designed by the British architect Norman Foster. (red. as well as Michel Virlogeux).

Isla: Do you have any plans for the rest of your stay?

The Whites: We are definitely planning on going to Millau and Rodez, and are planning on researching more ideas at the tourist office in reception this week.

Isla: What is your favourite part about Camping le Caussanel?

The Whites: The view! And our pitch- it’s an emplacement Premium Castel, which means it’s a pitch with a fridge, barbecue and garden furniture. (red. in front of these Castel pitches there are pitches without electricity that can be occupied in high season)

Isla: What do you think of Aveyron? Is it your first time here?

The Whites: Yes, it’s our first here. The thing that struck us the most was how beautiful and green the countryside is. The rolling hills here remind us of the Chiltern Hills back home!

Isla: Finally, why did you choose Camping Le Caussanel for your holiday this year?

The Whites: The location of the campsite was what made us choose here. It was on our way from the campsites we have been staying in, and is an area of France we have never been to before. Also it's near the Millau Viaduct, which is something we really wanted to see.
