In October 2017, the association of the Most Beautiful villages in France counted 157 villages distributed across 14 regions and 70 departments.Aveyron and Dordogne were the most contributing departments each with 10 villages voted as some of the most beautiful villages in the world.Coming in at a close second is the department of Vaucluse with 7 winning villages.

2 Sauveterre de Rouergue
Sauveterre de Rouergue is a historic village surrounded walls dating back to medieval times and is recognised equally for its yearly art exhibitions.

As is indicated by its name, at the centre of this village you will find a medieval castle.You will be astonished by its architecture and its prime position on the edge of the Tarn river.

4 La Couvertoirade
The rich medieval city of Couvertoirade is located on the grounds of Larzac. This dynamic place is overflowing with museums and exhibitions. The last standing Templar castle in France can be found here, in this village engulfed in history.
5 Sainte - Eulalie - d'Olt
You can explore the history of Sainte - Eulalie - d'Olt, situated on the edge of the water, by taking a boat tour around the villages beautiful waters, or simply strolling among its narrow streets.

8 Conques
This village of character has an abundance of treasures, Conques is truly a sight for sore eyes.Don`t miss the abbey, the treasure of Sainte-Foy, and the amazing stained glass windows by Pierre Soulages.
9 Najac
Surrounded by forests, this French town will amaze you with its rich patrimony. The castle,Château royal de Najac was constructed in the middle of the 13th century is is classified today as a historic monument. It is here that the Templars were imprisoned after their arrest in 1307.
10 Peyre
In this village which is located very closely to the town of Milau, the vast majority of houses are troglodytes.Église Saint-Christophe de Peyre is a roman church dating from the 17th century and is found in the very heart of the town.
